Interfaith Blessing & Celebration of API LGBT Families
October 11, 2008
Pacific School of Religion, Chapel of the Great Commission
Berkeley, CA

In the midst of CA Proposition 8's assault on the LGBT community, the Network on Religion and Justice blessed and celebrated API LGBT families of all types.

October 11th is traditionally known as National Coming Out Day. We redefined the day as National Standing-with Day and gathered to stand with each other in all of our diversity.

We were surrounded by the healing presence
of LGBT-affirming Asian American and Pacific Islander clergy
from Christian, Buddhist, and Jewish traditions.

We heard music from the angelic and prophetic voices
of API LGBT people and allies who are silenced in their churches.

We heard testimonies from glowing lesbian couples, strong gay couples,
queer children who are grateful for the unending support of their mothers,
people who have found friendship and loving families in welcoming churches.

Rev. Michael Yoshii: Committed gay and lesbian couples,
wonderfully accepting mothers of queer kids,
true friends, welcoming church families -
We affirm all of these families and relationships. Don't we?!

Congregation:
We do!

A stone ritual to give thanks for and re-commit to
the people and relationships that are rocks in our lives.
